Seminar “Fairy Tale Therapy 1: Character Analysis”
We don’t come with a guide. This is the main ontological tragedy: we spend years mastering complex technological systems using detailed manuals, but we remain woefully ignorant of how to manage our own psyche. We desperately try to appear logical, but at our core, we are totally irrational.
We are not biocomputers running dry algorithms, but living carriers of ancient symbols and rigid scripts that subjugate us from the shadows.
This seminar is an attempt to compose the first pages of our personal guide, drawing on the anthropology of consciousness.
Simply intellectual knowledge of our problems is not enough. You can read hundreds of books on psychology and still remain trapped in your old habits. To change the trajectory of our lives, we need to move from knowledge to a direct experience of our inner narratives.
The root of this barrier lies in the duality of our thinking. Our perception of reality is not a monolith, but a continuous conflict between two systems speaking different languages. The left hemisphere is our internal bureaucrat, operating with logic, strict discourse, and the rules of a disciplinary society. The right hemisphere is a poet and artist, thinking in images, dreams, and archetypes.
And our subconscious is precisely this artist. It is completely deaf to orders formulated in the language of duty and rationality. If we try to force ourselves, the psyche responds with silent sabotage. To come to terms with ourselves, we need to learn the language of metaphors.
When there is no synergy, a real war unfolds within. We deplete our resources in an endless battle with ourselves. Under the slogans of freedom, we often merely exchange one social mask for another. But for the deepest core, abstract freedom doesn’t exist—there’s only Purpose. To ignore this call for the sake of social correctness is to condemn oneself to meaningless existence. True freedom is found not in rebelling against one’s narrative, but in consciously living it.
There are more than eight billion of us, but the number of basic life paths is strictly limited. It’s not the paths we choose, but what chooses them within us. Our aesthetic choices and moral compass are not the fruit of free reason—they are predetermined by the narrative that lives within us. To understand it means finally understanding why we make the decisions we do.
The tools of fairy tale therapy allow us to uncover these patterns—namely, by analyzing our favorite and unloved childhood heroes. A favorite hero reflects our inner dynamics. The psyche unerringly chooses the one whose destiny resonates with our needs, even if morality condemns it. But the paradox is that in real life, we overwhelmingly behave like our least favorite character. Those who anger or disgust us hide our suppressed Shadow, the one who controls us. Without embracing this part, we are doomed to internal disunity, for it is within this part that a colossal resource is hidden.
Our task is not to conquer the Shadow, but to achieve a paradoxical synthesis. The first step to uniqueness is to honestly identify these poles, casting aside social filters. Then we construct our near self: we take the drive of one character and the methods of another. This provides a clear answer to the question of what we should do right now. The final stage of transformation is the creation of the far self, our ideal synthetic figure, which resolves all internal contradictions. This is the key to fulfilling our purpose.
By understanding our plot, we cease to be splinters in the flow of circumstances and become the architects of our own destiny, clearly understanding where and why our life is developing. Study Materials
