- You have kids (= an endless cycle of school and sports and activities!)
- You have a job (and you, ahem, donât love it…)
- Only 1-You can dedicate 2 hours per night to building a blog
Youâll read all about my plan just a bit further down this page ⊠but let me introduce myself first!
The Three Keys to Blogging Success
Most people think that all you need is a topic youâre passionate about â like cooking, or budgeting â and voila! You can start a blog that is successful!
But my experience showed me it wasnât like that at all.
When Iâd just focused on creating good content, sure, I had good stuff to say â but there was nobody reading it, and I wasnât making any money!
Instead, I discovered that profitable blogs are built on THREE crucial parts:
1. Creativity
Doing what you love most
2. Technical
How to get your blog working
3. Business
(Making money out of it all)

These are what I call the âThree Keys to Blogging Successâ.

Many people believe that you only need skills in one area. âcreativeâ side to be successful â but thatâs wrong.
Iâll be honest with you: Unless you are good at all three, youâll find it very, very difficult to succeed as a blogger.
Thankfully, Iâm here to help you! đ
Let me quickly explain each one.
1. The âCreativeâ Part (Doing the Best You Can)
As I said, this is where everyone focuses. Itâs the thing you blog âaboutâ â the thing you like and are good at.
Perhaps you enjoy cooking, photography, travel, healthy living, or photography.
I probably donât really need to explain this one to you â generally the creative side is the part youâre already good at.
Instead, itâs the next two parts where it starts to get hard âŠ

2. The âTechnicalâ Part (Getting Your Blog To Work)
This is the part that frustrates most bloggers (myself included).).
Because letâs be real: when you have a bunch of blog post ideas and you just want to write ⊠thereâs nothing more frustrating than having to navigate through a bunch of technical hurdles. (e.g. How do you set up a blog? How do I publish posts? How can I get more Facebook users? So on.
There can be so much technical jargon to understand that it can make it difficult to find your way.
Yet if you DONâT have a good grip on these things ⊠youâre not going to have a blog there for anyone to read!
From years of experience, I can tell you just a small handful of the technical things youâll need to take care of if you want to succeed with your blog:
- Domain names and webhosting
- How to choose and install a WordPress theme.
- Choose a font and color scheme.
- Formatting and publishing posts to your website.
- Taking good photos for your blog.
- How to join affiliate networks
- How to build products on your blog.
- Building an email list
- The ins and outs of social media â Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube.
- That is only a tiny fraction of the information you need!
Many blogging resources throw you into the deep end here and either give you almost no guidance on how to do these things ⊠or their instructions are so complex, itâs just too hard to follow them.
And then ⊠it doesnât end here!
The third is essential if you want to make money from your blog. âkeyâ This is the most important of all.

3. The âBusinessâ Part (Making money from it all)
This basically means: How will you make any money?
Lots of people think that if you just put some posts online, youâll start making money. But that definitely isnât true!
Anyone who has a blog knows that you can spend hours and hours on great content (and navigating your way past technical headaches) ⊠and still end up with very little money to show for it.
So, you can find the following: âbusinessâ umbrella, you have the following:
- How can you drive traffic to your blog?
- How can you monetize traffic once you have it?
- Do you require disclosures on your website?
- Is it a good idea to hire a virtual assistant What time should you hire a virtual assistant?
- How much can you make?
- How do you negotiate a contract
- What are the steps to create a blog that is a business?
- What is the best time to hire someone to handle your taxes?
- What other products can you sell and what price should you charge?
- Again, thatâs only a tiny handful of what you need to know ⊠but you get the idea.
Remember, most blogging resources only really tackle one of the three parts of blogging (and often itâs the creative one, the easy part!).
It can feel overwhelming when you consider all you need to know. As it did for my family.
How do you master these keys to a successful blog?
Well, Iâll tell you what I did: I spent years and years learning it all by trial and error ⊠and making a LOT of mistakes along the way!!!
I mean, itâs not like I really had a choice. There just werenât any resources out there on how to build a successful blog.
All those things I mentioned above? Yep ⊠I was basically forced to figure them all out myself!
Now hereâs what you might be thinking ⊠âWell it worked for you Heather, so maybe thatâs what I should do too?â
No!!! Donât do that.
In fact, there are three huge problems with this approach which almost derailed me completely ⊠and they happen to be the reason that most bloggers never âmake itâ in blogging.
These are just a few examples. Take a look at them and decide if they appeal to you. âfiguring it out yourselfâ is worth it âŠ
