David Gordon – Therapeutic Metaphor

The One Key To Milton Erickson’s Success
There is nothing that you can do without someone showing you how to do it.
David GordonCo-NLP Developer reveals
Therapeutic The metaphor
Milton Erickson was the legendary Hypnotherapist. He is well-known for helping people to make drastic personal changes. For people who didn’t recognize what he was doing, Erickson simply told stories, parables, or jokes. Others realized that there were deeper patterns.
Erickson made it seem so simple that he fooled even the experts. Erickson’s student Ernest Rossi watched Milton work with a client and recorded the hypnotic induction step by step in the book, “Hypnotic Realities.†But when it came to observing work with the client, Rossi abruptly broke off the transcript and wrote… at this point Dr. Erickson began to tell a story.
Even one of Erickson’s top students didn’t recognize these brilliant patterns when they were used…and neither will the people you work with.
Erickson encountered a client who had severe cases of premature ejaculation years ago. Because of his condition, he was unable live a normal life.
The man was very embarrassed about his problem and was unable to openly discuss his problem with Erickson…so the master told him a story.
Erickson discussed the case in an article “A Study of Experimental Neuroissis Hypnotically Induced in a Case of Ejaculato Praecox†which was published in the British Journal of Medical Psychology in 1935. Erickson was telling Erickson a story using fancy words.
Erickson’s paper stunned the research community. Gregory Bateson, Margaret Mead, and Gregory Bateson were both enthralled by Erickson’s paper. Erickson devoted an entire article in 1944 revealing his process and yet…
His process was so complex and difficult that virtually no one could use it. Therapeutic Erickson is not the only treatment method that metaphor can be used.
Until David Gordon He cracked the code, and made it possible. Therapeutic All can use the metaphor.
The Power of metaphor
Metaphors are more than a way of talking about an experience. Metaphors are what we call our experience. They are the lenses through which we see and make sense of the world. Metaphors can be used to shift our perceptions and experiences. As a result, you can transform people’s behavior.

Therapeutic Metaphors are stories that are specifically designed to be used for covert or overt change. The story is part of people’s lives.
This is the true power of Therapeutic Metaphor is the art of creating an elegant story that can inspire great personal change.
Telling Stories…For A Change
Erickson discovered that he could tell stories without conscious resistance when he did so. Telling stories Therapeutic The metaphor of planting a seed is very similar to the metaphor of planting a seed. Some are born immediately, while others take time to work.
The true beauty of Therapeutic The power of metaphors to effect deep and lasting change is in their ability to do so in an indirect or even covert way.
This is when you tell the Therapeutic No one needs to be aware of what you are doing metaphorically. You can make life-changing changes without anyone ever realizing it.
Here’s how metaphor works. There are two types: universal and isomorphic metaphors. An isomorphic metaphor describes a one-to-1 relationship between all events in the story and their real world counterparts.
The True Life Application of Therapeutic The metaphors
Although I’ve used Therapeutic There are many metaphors, but there was one case that surprised me. A family reached out to me because their son had become a member of an extreme cult. He cut all ties with his family. Because he believed it was the work of Satan, he cut off his phone. He preferred to communicate via the mail.
He invited his brother to come over one day. He informed his brother about the terms. They would sit in the park and silently admire God’s creation – nothing more. If this agreement was broken, it was the end of their visit.
So, he couldn’t talk about any of the real important issues and he came to my office with an impossible challenge. “How can I get through to my brother if I can’t talk to him.â€
I wrote the following: Therapeutic metaphor and we disguised it as a newspaper article and left it in the young man’s bathroom. He returned home to see his family just one month later.
Yes, it’s an amazing story but you will have this ability as well when you discover the power of Therapeutic metaphor.
You can use your unlimited power to assist others and apply for endless applications
Erickson and many NLP students use NLP, however. Therapeutic Metaphor in therapy has many other uses.

In the Glory Days of NLP David Gordon One of the co-developers. He was part of the inner circle that included John Grinder, Richard Bandler, and Leslie Cameron-Bandler and Robert Dilts.
John Grinder and Richard Bandler had just completed their extraordinary modeling of Milton Erickson and produced three books or Erickson’s language and therapeutic patterns.
David Gordon was charged with producing a model of Erickson’s stories. The result was “Therapeutic metaphors†which was published in 1978. Armed with Gordon’s magical work, people were able to use Therapeutic Use metaphors to incite profound change
But, ever since publication David His work was refined and improved. Unfortunately, not many people have been updated. Therapeutic metaphor.

Several years ago, David A rare three-day seminar was presented at my Florida offices. It was completely sold out, and people traveled from all parts of the world to participate.
Here’s what some of them had to say about the seminar:
“Half way through the seminar, I changed the way I did therapy…forever!†– S. Rea Rapavi, M.Ht.
“Every therapist who wants help their clients change should be using David’s powerful techniques.†– J. Arthur Van Wyck
“David Gordon’s training in Therapeutic metaphor should be required viewing for parents, therapists, and sales people.†– Helen Marie
We recorded every word on Digital Video and then…I’m embarrassed to say, I put them on a shelf in my office and forgot all about them. Until David His new book, Modeling, was published
